I have had many inspirations for teaching in my life thus far. The person who has inspired me is my mother. Another conduit of inspiration would be my job as a behavioral specialist and a job coach.
My Mother has inspired me to be a teacher since I was little. She has applied her teaching skills to many aspects of life. I have been able to see her in her classroom many times when I would come to visit when in college and before college when I was in high school. She is always patient, calm, and understanding. She does not let her students say " I can't" and if they come to her for help she will stay until they understand. Besides the fact that she has a calm demeanor she epitomizes the idea of a teacher by modeling and tiering lessons. She also makes chemistry fun for her students. I have met more than one student that has come back to her and said that the skills and knowledge they learned in her class helped them greatly when they took college general chemistry. More specifically my mom has inspired me to be a teacher though her interactions with her student's. She takes her time in explaining the subject matter and always tries to find different ways for her students to understand. I would like to help students in that manner and make an impact in others lives.
How did you see your mother teach? What specifically does she do that inspired you?
Another Inspiration I have had that has made me want to teach has been my job working with those with special needs. Every week I go to work and get to be a one-on-one teacher. It was when I got hired for this job and began to really appreciate it that I changed my major from chemistry to education. Every time I go to work it makes me want to be a better teacher. This job also consistently is teaching me skills for teaching such as patience, working with unexpected occurrences, scheduling, being observant, and looking at a problem and being able to brainstorm different solutions immediately.
Intro.. Para 1 Para 2.... No conclusion?
I believe that many different occurrences in my life have lead me toward becoming a teacher. Some of them were observing my mother and my work with youth with special needs. I continually have inspirations that make me want to help students learn from those events in my life. I also am inspired currently when I go into my CT classrooms and watch them teach. It makes me look forward to my future as a teacher.
